Project Description
Adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) outcomes have improved in sub-Saharan Africa, including a decline in child marriage, adolescent fertility, and an increase in contraceptive use. However, the region still has the highest adolescent pregnancy rates and lowest contraceptive use globally. In Ghana, 30% of pregnancies are unintended, with a higher prevalence (70%) among adolescents. These pregnancies lead to severe health, educational, and social consequences, including unsafe abortions. Despite a rise in contraceptive use, unmet needs remain high among adolescents. Data from the 2017 Ghana Maternal Health Survey (GMHS) show lower contraceptive use rates compared to earlier surveys. In this project, data from the 2017 Ghana Maternal Health Survey (GMHS) to assess contraceptive knowledge, prevalence, and determinants among sexually active unmarried adolescents (15–19 years) and young women (20–24 years) in Ghana.
